Very rare find; beautiful
early 1900's antique Clarus Ware lemonade pitcher by Pope Gosser Pottery.
Cream color bisque porcelain; glazed inside and on bottom. Embossed stylized wheat sheaf pattern with hand painted gold embellishments. (Origin of wheat pattern are traced to 1800's English pottery.)

Rough area under glaze underneath ice lip (see photo taken with round mirror).
Two small black pits, 1 on top of ice lip and 1 inside mouth.
Two dark parallel lines under glaze inside mouth.
A few dark spots outside in bisque.

Clarus Ware Edwardian art china was produced by the Pope Gosser Pottery of Coshocton, Ohio, for a few years around 1903.
The maker's mark on this pitcher solidly dates it to the early 1900's. The pitcher is characteristic of the company's first high quality decorative pieces. Per online research:

Bentley Pope, was trained by some of the best potteries in England. He immigrated to the United States in the late 19th century and was employed as manager at various potteries. In order to start his own pottery company he formed a partnership with jeweller Charles F. Gosser, to found the Pope-Gosser China Company, in a small factory, in 1902, with Pope as president, and Gosser as Secretary/Treasurer. The goods were identified by a double ring with wings plus the identification CLARUS WARE.

The Pope-Gosser company was organized in Coshocton, Ohio in 1902 by Charles F. Gosser and Bentley Pope. In the beginning it experimented with high quality decorative pieces. Later on the concentration was on dinnerware. The company closed in 1958. Pope was a skillful decorator who was born in England. He came to America in 1870 and worked at Trenton until 1891, when he moved to Ohio. At that time he become manager of KTK until 1903, when he left to form the Pope-Gosser China Company with Gosser.
