Presented for your consideration is this interesting antique horse book. The book is titled, Bristol's Illustrated Horsemanship, and was written by D.M. Bristol. This is believed to be a 1st edition. The title page is missing but there is a letter in the front of the book by the author that is dated June 1, 1881. It is also believed, per the letter, to have been published in Battle Creek, Michigan. The 135 page book gives information on how to train horses. Some of the specific topics in the book are: Balking in Single Harness, Kicking in the Stall, Educating the Horse to Drive Without Reins, Educating to Go Lame, Habits of a Mature Horse, Running Away, Tossing the Head, and To Drive by Switch of the Whip. There is also a short section that discusses training cows. Several black and white illustrations are present throughout the book. Finished with a hardcover with a gold embossed horse head on the front cover. This interesting book would make a great read for anyone interested in training horses!
The binding is loose and five pages are missing. A few of the pages are creased and have a small tear in the upper right corner. One page has some pencil markings on it. The name of a previous owner is on the inside covers. Light cover staining. Typical wear from age and use. Overall in FAIR condition. Sold AS FOUND. Measures 7" long, 4 1/2" wide, and 1/2" thick.
