Description

Epergne is defined
as an ornamental centerpiece for a dining table, typically used for holding fruit or flowers.
It measures almost
19" tall and 19" wide.
This beauty has been on a beautiful Ameican antique credenza for about 30 years where they both enhance our lovely home. I am finding it very difficult to offer really beautiful and unusual antiques such as this for sale, but I am nearly 80 years of age and our 2 sons show no interest in owning my lovely antiques so I am hoping they will find homes with someone else who will enjoy them as I have.
Because of the style of the flowers in the fruit "bowls" it is a product of the art nouveau era 1890-1910.
The beautiful lady and the cherub have a more Victorian look so this item probably dates nearer 1890.
.
At times I have put flowers in the vase and fruit in the "bowls" and it is really lovely then.  But, it is lovely empty also.
The gold plating in the "bowls" probably used to be more pronounced, but time has had its way.  Other than that it is in terrific condition for approx. 120 years old.  The glass vase comes out easily and has one very miniscule chip that I had not noticed until just now.
LOOK AT THE BOTTOM PHOTO FIRST AND WORK YOUR WAY UP
I find pricing these items very difficult.  They will never be made again.  The workmanship and designs of the 1800s and the first 15 years of the 1900s was so unique and beautiful and will probably never be done again.  The style now is "the plainer the better".
So, the price for this Epergne has been reduced from ,100.00 to ,600.00
