    Description

1790-1820 Antique English Georgian Silverplate Hand Engraved Samovar Coffee Urn
Presented is a very high quality antique Georgian, 1790-1820's samovar or hot beverage keeper urn. The piece is composed of hand chased and engraved silverplate and features several very interesting and extraordinarily artful decorative features. Photos cannot do justice to the symmetrically aligned, vertical feather pattern that encircles the urn below the waist, the round foot and atop the lid! The "feathers" are in mirror polish, the space between their tips, textured. The borders of all of the patterns have a linear milgrain texture. Fantastic! You will also notice an attractive repeating flower pattern surrounding the widest point which runs around and behind the applied lions masks holding ring side-handles. The large chalice-shaped pot is stemmed, standing on a round base upon a square, four-footed pedestal. The feet are fluted and balled.
Inside the urn is a chimney for holding hot coals with which to keep the water or other beverage hot.
    Condition:
The condition of this antique urn is very good. We filled it with hot water and find that the urn and spigot work perfectly without leaking. There is one spot of damage to the silver causing a mar and some copper showing through near the right front pedestal foot, but the rest of this distinctive antique is in excellent shape on its exterior, as you can see from our carefully thorough photos. The inside is dark from various residues and could use cleaning. There is also a small amount of rust surrounding the lid finial on the interior.
Dimensions: 19 inches tall by 11 inches wide to the lion's noses, about 12 inches including the spout to the widest point. The urn's mouth is 6 3/8 inches diameter. The pedestal feet are 1 1/4 inches high. The urn capacity is 168 fluid oz. (U.S., 1.3 gals) or 5 liters.
    Weight: 8 lbs 10.5 oz (3926.4 grams)
